Gone Treasure Hunting!

NOTE: Buzz Bookstore will be temporarily closing on July 1st, reopening on July 17th.

For those of you like me, the act of digging through piles of old books in the narrow aisles of dusty used bookshops is truly an act of modern treasure hunting. Each one of us gains a minor victory for each hardcover copy of Salinger or Austen we find. As a purveyor of those rare copies, I get to enjoy those thrills almost every week (lucky me!). So, what does an everyday treasure hunter do when he goes on vacation? He goes for the REAL gold!

For the first half of July, the bookstore will be temporarily closed as my wife and I head out West to seek the fabled treasure of Forrest Fenn. This isn't a joke - I really convinced her to do this.

The Fenn Treasure is a treasure reportedly worth one to three million dollars hidden by art dealer and author Forrest Fenn in the Rocky Mountains. According to Fenn, many people have claimed to have found the treasure, but no one has provided any evidence to him supporting their claim. As of 2015, Fenn has stated that to his knowledge it is still not found.

After burying the treasure in the Rocky Mountains, Forrest Fenn composed a six-stanza poem containing clues to the treasure's location (see above). The clues, along with hints that Mr. Fenn has provided in interviews over the years, have been translated into a real life, modern day treasure map. Sadly, someone forgot to mark the treasure with an "X" on this one. As a bookstore owner and an former English teacher with several literature degrees, we figure we might just be the perfect team to decipher the poem and bring home the gold.

Do not be alarmed: Even if we find the treasure (we won't), Buzz Books will be back up and running by mid-July so you can all continue to treat your shelves well.

Can't wait until we get back to get your book fix? I recommend swinging by the Rare Book Room over at our friends from Biblio. They've always got a drool-worthy collection up for grabs.

Wish us luck!
