"Le Comte de Monte-Cristo"

Par M. Alexandre Dumas

Publié par Le Siècle

Paris

Bureaux du Journal, Le Siècle

Rue du Croissant, 16

1846

First single-volume edition of "Le Comte de Monte Cristo", with the original mispelling of "Christo" throughout the text (but not on the cover page). Originally serialized by Le Journal des Débats in 8 parts from 1844-1845, this edition was published in 1846 and collected them all in a single volume with the original type-setting. Preceded only by the newspaper and the 18-volume Baudry-Pétion edition (which began selling even before the final installments had hit newsstands), this can be considered the first complete edition and the second edition overall. It was printed roughly concurrently with the 1846 first English edition. This edition also precedes the single volume Au bureau des Écho des Feuilletons edition (1846) that corrected "Christo" to "Cristo" and added 30 engravings.
