Recently, I published an article called "17 Books 'Everyone on the Planet Should Read'" that contained a list generated by the book community on reddit. Unsurprisingly, a quick poll on Twitter showed that the majority of people had read 5 or fewer of the titles. Get to it people! Kudos to those select few that have master the list, though.
After posting the list, Shannon Reed correctly pointed out that the list was shockingly light on books written by women. In fact, "My Side of the Mountain" by Jean Craighead George was the only exception.
As a followup to that previous list, I went back to Twitter to solicit a broader perspective and drafted the resulting list below as a self-rebuttal (I might have made that phrase up). Give it a glance and let me know in the comments if there are more books that you think I should have included. Some of the titles did not surprise me but many did. I can tell you that my own TBR list has grown as a result. Again.
