"The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon" by Washington Irving [John Murray, 1824]. Two volume set. Very early copy, published just 4 years after the first edition. Murray was encouraged to publish the set in England at the behest of Irving’s friend, Sir Walter Scott, when his original publisher went bankrupt. Includes “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”, “Rip Van Winkle”, and many more. This set has marbled edges and papers. Some light foxing throughout. The textblocks are both very sound but, unfortunately, all four boards have been detached. An excellent candidate to be rebound and a scarce edition.
